Revolutionizing Perimeter Protection
The Perifeld-M System is currently considered
the best perimeter alarm system available for
high-level security facilities worldwide. Manufactured
in Germany by Siemens, Perifeld-M is imported
to the US under exclusive license by NSSC.
The Perifeld-M System offers the highest degree
of security with the lowest false and nuisance
alarm compared to all other rates of any perimeter
detection systems. The Perifeld-M System was first
brought to the US by NSSC in the early '90's for
performance testing in response to customer concerns
with existing perimeter intrusion detection technology.
Preliminary tests were conducted by one of the
major operators of nuclear power reactors in the
midwest. As part of the study, two new systems
were installed for a side-by-side comparison performed
by the utility. The systems evaluated were the
Perifeld-M system and intrusion detection system
of similar technology.
Testing was conducted for a period of approximately
eighteen months to allow the site to evaluate
the operation of the systems in all types of climatic
conditions. This included two winters with snow.
The testing results showed a dramatic difference
between the two systems. During eighteen months
of operation, the Siemens Perifeld-M System had
zero days of down time, while the other system
was available less than 90% of the time and exhibited
an extremely high false and nuisance alarm. After
these successful testing results were realized,
over 15% of the U.S. nuclear sites converted to
the Perifeld-M System from existing E-Field and
microwave systems rate.
